COMPANY HISTORY

Cristal was established in 1994 and specialised in decorative glass right from the start. Technical developments and changing markets gradually concentrated production in the field of decorative glass doors, in which Cristal tried out combined processing techniques to produce various types of stratified and certified safety glass. The production methods that Cristal has developed are historically linked to those of Gothic glass. Though this once required lead for assembly, today Cristal uses a technique based on stratification instead. This clever idea soon led to the development of an entire family of decorative products made by combining and assembling prestige glass types, sanded effect glass, and glass with brush painted pictorial designs. Thanks to the technique of stratification, the décor is enclosed between two panes of glass, and remains fresh over time precisely because it is isolated from the atmosphere and protected against attack by the chemical products typically used in domestic cleaning. Collaboration with Marcello Gennari, stemming from Cristal’s determination to become market leader in decorative glass doors, began in 2004.

The result has been a series of collections developing new decorative directions, applying the technique of stratification to ever more unusual and innovative materials, and adding a modern interpretation to what are thoroughly consolidated assembly techniques. Genuine dried banyan leaves, folded rice paper, and linen fabric combined with decorations and digital prints are all included in our latest product offering to cater for the most refined tastes and to satisfy the widest variety of needs. After many years of trials and tests, Cristal’s product catalogue is still in ferment, and still growing unstoppably, to ensure that Cristal can rightly claim its place as leader in the decorative glass door market. Cristal is even now developing a whole range of innovative technical solutions spanning stratified glass, stratified tempered glass and tempered glass in doors with wood or aluminium frames or even with no frames at all. The latest addition to the range is an innovative blind door in perfectly two-sided lacquered glass. The finish uses a series of lacquers developed especially to ensure perfect coverage. The new door combines the brilliance of glass with inalterable colours and a scratch-proof and chemical resistant finish. A genuine and passionate force for renewal at Cristal is driving the company’s products towards the ambitious objective of achieving simple yet never obvious beauty.
